Jean Joliffe was born in Clarksburg, W.V. on August 18, 1914. The family moved to Denver, Colo. when she was a child and she attended East High School and the University of Denver. In 1936, Jean Joliffe moved to New York City where she met Lenard Royston Yancey Jr., the couple was married in Scarsdale, N.Y. in 1937.
